May 30, 2009 blog

Hey everyone,

I know we promised to keep this blog updated & the last time we wrote anything was in 2008. Let me just say we've been busy & just plain forgot about it. Usually it has been mom that began the blog however, she told me tonight... I could take over with the blog so here we go...

Let me start this blog off telling about the latest excursion mom & I took on May 12, 2009 to the Dallas Museum of Art to see the King Tut Exhibit. We had to wait a bit before we could actually get in to go to the exhibit. Once inside we were told to watch a 90-second film on a little background of the boy Pharaoh.

After the film began the 6 room walk through tour starting with artifacts that were belonging to Tut's Father & Grandfather. The last 4 rooms belonged to the artifacts that were actually found in King Tut's tomb which was discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter. Some of the artifacts were statues, furniture, personal items that he had as well as kingly regalia that he wore. The kingly regalia that he wore was awesome, we saw the crook & the flailers that he used. The last room was full of video screens that were talking about & explaining when his mummy was discovered & going through cat scans to determine the age along with other things.

In all the tour took us 2 hrs to go through. It was awesome for me because my interest in Egypt began when I was in elementary school & I still love that interest even now.

Texas!!!

We've been in Texas 7 months now. It's wonderful, being out here again. The move was hard and tiring but worth it. Our house is the prettiest we've ever had and we have lots of room. I haven't missed NC at all. Sometimes, I drive around there in my mind but it only reminds me of what little there was there for us.

Our only reason to miss NC is a friend who has moved out here now. He was offered a really good job, a promotion within his company, but here in Texas. He took the position and moved the end of Nov. Now, we get to visit with our older daughter and the 2 grand kids every chance we get and that is wonderful.

There are days when I love to just go outside and look up at the beautiful clear blue Texas sky. It is a deep clear blue - meaning that we can literally see into outer space, if we could keep going it would turn dark blue and we could see the stars.

Life is good now here in Texas. Whatever the future brings, we'll face it. God has been so good to us, to take care of our needs, in all areas. Now, if we can get our son and his family to move out here, we can all be together again, it will be just about perfect!

We had a few interesting things happen to us as we were moving in and getting settled. We've never had a house with a security alarm. About 2 weeks after moving in, at about 2:30 in the morning, we were suddenly awakened by the full alarm system going off. Now, I don't know about you, but that is enough, in itself to give you a heart attack!! You instantly start wondering if someone has broken into the house! My husband jumped straight up out of bed, and by the time he took 4 steps to the alarm box, it stopped!

We were now in a panic from just the noise, our daughter on the other side of the house is coming up the hall. We check everything ---- nothing! All doors and windows are in tact. We wonder what caused the system to go off. After a while, we all head back to bed, but no one goes to sleep.
We try to sleep with one eye open - fearing whatever caused the alarm to trip! About 8 a.m, it sounds again -- for about 10 seconds only and stops again. By now, we all look like that proverbial cat that is hanging from the ceiling by his claws!!!

We later called the alarm service, and they tell us that they have no idea what could have caused it and the system must be turned off manually and it WILL NEVER TURN ITSELF OFF! (Wanna bet!)

All stays quiet for a while. About another month later, we are all, again, asleep one night and about 4 a.m., our daughter comes flying through to our side of the house and demands to know just what in the world is that noise going through her bathroom wall! Having no earthly idea what she is talking about, we all get up and check this out. We find that our automatic yard sprinkler system has decided it's time to water the yard. It's still dark outside!!!! We had never heard it, nor did we even realize that we had one until then!! lol This time we trecked to the garage wall to find the controls and eventually we get it turned off! Later, - in the daylight - we managed to get it back on again so we could see just exactly where there sprinkler heads are and how many there are!

We have gotten the alarm system straightened out now and the sprinkler system is due for someone to come out and show us how to set and work the thing before the weather gets really warm.

Our long time friends from our home town are still out here close by. We get to be with them again. We all went to high school together and stayed best friends since then. She is an artist, I'm taking watercolor classes from her and meeting many new ladies my age. We are catching up on all the past news about our children. As we have moved back out here, they have decided to take up camping again. They bought a new truck and a new camper and are taking off to parts unknown on good weekends and good weather. Retired life isn't so bad after all!

In the midst of all our moves to Texas, my sister and her family moved from Michigan to Hollywood, CA. He's an Anglican Priest and has taken a small church in the middle of Hollywood. They have Skype and we do and our daughters spend many hours talking to each other over the computers. We each have webcams and enjoy visiting in each other's houses. We have songfest's and hours of laughter between the families. We hope to visit out there this summer or the next.

My daughter, who lives with us is physically handicapped and confined to a wheelchair. This doesn't stop her, she has completed college and looking for a job. For the last 4 years she and I have gone to NYC in October each year for the Guiding Light Soap Opera Fan Club luncheon. It's a fun and wonderful trip. We have met the cast member and become friends with some of them. We corresponde with a few and she even talks on the phone to a couple of the younger guys at times.

We have a good time. Our family enjoys each other. We're waiting for the next adventure to come along ----- and it will, when we least expect it!!!

May 12, 2007

Five weeks from today we will be living in Texas!!! I said we would never move back but things do have a way of changing. We lived there - long ago - for 18 yrs, all three children are Native Texans and our oldest daughter lives there now with her husband and 2 children.

I went out there in April, found a house and started the process. Right now, we are still in NC, trying to pack everything and get ready for this - fast coming move. Monday morning the painters are supposed to be here to paint the interior of the house, then get new carpet in the 3 bedrooms after that and hope and pray that it sells soon. I am exhausted from having to do so much and although I'm on the downhill, there is still one more mountain to climb and that is the garage! YIKES!!!! Really, I'm my packing is in good shape. Everything is packed and ready to go except the clothes in the closets and the kitchen things. Of course, I did start packing boxes back in February! and thank goodness I did!

Hubby is excited about the move and our daughter here with us is too. It will be a new start in a more exciting place. (Let's face it - this part of NC is BORING!!!!!) The No. Dallas area of Texas is much more exciting with far more opportunities waiting for all of us. My life long friend from high school and her family are still out there and we can't wait to be together again. We will be going to the church where Chuck Swindoll preaches and that is super exciting!

I have tons more to do so I will stop for a while and try to update more later.
